Workshop Description:

We are facing a global Islamist insurgency consisting of two wings - military & political. While the military component is obvious and recognized by the West, the insidious political wing goes generally unnoticed. It is  well established , however, and very active in the United States .  Since 1964, it has been waged as a protracted 'political war' without opposition.  This interactive workshop is designed to educate and train ordinary citizens about the evolving threat posed by radical Islamists operating within our borders. Our goal is to train and empower people concerned about subversive and seditious activity.  We owe it to our children and grandchildren to insure that we leave them a world of peace and harmony; we do not want them to live with the terror that Radical Islam will impose upon them.  In addition to learning about the tools and techniques employed by this foreign-based extremist movement, attendees will be taught to recognize insurgents, develop skills to observe them, and employ technologies to research and analyze their activities. There will also be an in-depth examination of case studies which exemplify the challenges that average citizens face in countering radical Islamist objectives.

Among the Subjects Covered:

1. Development of Islamist insurgencies in the U.S.

What is an insurgency?
Is there an insurgent movement within our borders?
Who are they, how did they develop?
What are their goals, tactics, strategies?
Who are the players?
U.S. Government attitudes.

2. Profile of an Insurgent.

Is there a single profile for an Islamic insurgent?
Types, motivations, degrees of commitment.
Self-aware, dupe, passive, active supporters.
Individuals & organizations.

3. How to develop observational skills.

Situational awareness is not intuitive or a natural state.
What to look for - how not to connect all the dots!
What is a threat?
How to build a network of educated observers.
Observation is nice but to whom do you report?

4. Research and analysis methods and technologies.

Information sources are ubiquitous.
OSINT represents about 90% of all classified intelligence.
Simple methods of evaluating "credibility" of data.
Targeting information & concepts often provided by the victim.
Posing a question, characterizing data, framing a picture.

5. Case studies.

Committee on American Islamic Relations  (CAIR)
Adnan El Shukrijuma
Penetration of key logistical assets.

Workshop Materials:
Attendees will receive a comprehensive workbook containing seminar notes and supplemental documentation related to Islamist insurgencies worldwide. In addition, a specially prepared CD containing even more background material on the radical Islamist threat will be provided for independent home study.
